| The A-T Artist Book is a compilation of artwork and biographies of children and young adults afflicted with Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T). On September 27 and 28, 2007, faculty, staff and volunteers, from the McCord Gallery & Cultural Center in Palos Park, Illinois, organized an art workshop in conjunction with the A-T Children's Project Research event. Art projects were designed with the interests, talents and abilities of these young artists in mind. The goal was to create several pieces of work to visually describe each individual. Questionnaires and personal interviews provided additional information on these unique young people, their interests and wishes they would ask for if they had the chance. Each artist worked on an individual collage featuring their silhouette filled with images that represent some of their favorite things. Groups of artists worked on the "Cityscape" and "Landscape" mini-murals included in the book and they also did a marble rolling technique on fabric. The fabric was then sewn together to create a quilt that was sold at auction to benefit A-T and McCord Gallery & Cultural Center. The photographers and designers from Vernon Communication documented the event in pictures and scanned the artwork to be published in what is now the A-T Artist Book. |
