DRAWING IN BLACK/WHITE/GREY

A NATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION

"Colour is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive.” Eliott Erwitt

When images are limited to black, white and shades of grey, viewers are drawn to focus on the subject matter, and the details of how the artist interprets an image in the absence of color. The simplicity of a restricted palette works across many media. Quite often, the fundamentals of drawing and painting are introduced with the most basic colors of black, white, and grey. With an eagerness to learn color theory, appreciation can be lost for the depth and versatility of this limited color palette...McCord Gallery & Cultural Center sought artists to submit their BLACK/WHITE/GREY works of art.

For this exhibition, we accepted BLACK/WHITE/GREY works of art created with graphite, charcoal, silver point, pencil, dry brush technique, pen & ink, scratchboard and ballpoint pen ONLY with no color in the image. All subject matter is included. Artists were able to submit up to 3 works for consideration for both the in-gallery exhibit and full virtual gallery of works on our website. All submissions were considered. McCord Gallery selections are based on creativity, quality of artistry and originality as represented in the images submitted.

Awards will be announced at the artist reception on August 5, 2022, 6-8 PM.

Open until Friday, August 26, 2022
